Over recent weeks you can’t have failed to notice the many references to Edge Hill University being the winner of the University of the Year, but what does it all mean for you?

Each year the Times Higher invite Universities around the country to put themselves forward for University of the Year and like most institutions Edge Hill University put together their 500 word entry.

The entry details many elements from the development of campus and the large investment in new buildings, the introduction of new courses, placement in national rankings and its rapid growth since being awarded University status in 2006, all areas that were recognised in the award.

Perhaps most significant to you, as a student here, are the elements of the entry that recognise the student experience, including your Students’ Union and the overall support for your welfare.  In addition to the experience elements of the award, Edge Hill University was also recognised for financial sustainability, meaning it can continue to develop and provide the best facilities for you throughout your studies.  The success also continues after graduation, where the University also comes top in the region for Graduate Employability.

Quite simply we thought the quote from the Times Higher Editor, described your University and why it was a worthy winner, perfectly:

“Edge Hill is a great success story…an institution that improves and impresses year after year. Its achievements in student satisfaction, staff engagement and graduate employment were noted by our judges, as was its financial performance and the part it plays in transforming lives in the local region. In 2012-13, its investment in academic staff, the strengthening of its research profile, the growth in applications and its innovation were all notable achievements. It is a deserving winner of the University of the Year title.”

John Gill, Editor of Times Higher Education

If you want to have your photo taken with the award, come along to the Hub on Thursday Dec 18th where there will be a photobooth from 9.30-2pm.
