Imagine the scene: it’s Welcome Week, you and mates are getting ready for an evening in the SU Bar.
Suddenly, it dawns on you. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic. Things might be operating slightly differently than the last time you were in the SU Bar.
And you’d be right.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your time with us, or that you should feel uncomfortable coming to visit your favourite campus bar. We’ve put loads of measures in place to keep both you and our staff safe through the COVID-19 pandemic.
But if you needed a little more reassurance, why not check out our step-by-step guide for using the SU Bar during current lockdown rules:
Simple! Remember your mask when you’re on your way over to the SU Bar.
And don’t worry. You won’t have to drink through a straw while wearing a mask. As we’ll see in a second, once you’ve been seated the masks can come off!
If you’re planning on coming to the SU Bar as a group, the maximum number for a group is six.
Organise your group BEFORE you arrive at the bar, rather than as you arrive. It means nobody will be disappointed and we’ll be able to seat you much faster.
As you’ll see when you arrive, we’ve put up a fair few posters so you know exactly how to keep safe.
These aren’t decoration. We aren’t running some elaborate pandemic themed SOCIAL here.
While you’re waiting to be seated, make sure to read the information available. We promise it won’t take long!
See the big QR code that says “Track and Trace” near the SU Bar entrance?
Yeah, you’ve got to scan that.
And no, it won’t take you long. We reckon less than 30 seconds if you’ve got quick thumbs.
Sure, we trust you. And we bet your hands are IMMACULATE before you’ve set off for your big night out.
But just for ease of mind, do us a favour and sanitise your hands at the door. It keeps everyone safe, after all.
We know you’re excited, but you can’t just march straight into the SU Bar these days.
You’ve got to wait your turn!
Don’t worry, that won’t take long. We’ll be seating everyone at allocated tables on arrival. No booking required, of course, but you do have to wait for one of our hosts to seat you and your group.
Not strictly COVID-related, but we can’t tell you how much you’re going to save time by ordering in rounds.
And think, what better way to make new friends than to get the first round in?
It’s not great to abandon your mates at the best of times, to be honest. But in the middle of a global pandemic? Nah, that’s just not on.
Once you arrive in the SU Bar as a group, that’s the group you have to stay with. No ifs, not buts.
Choose your group wisely before you enter! And remember – no more than six of you!
I know, thinking about leaving before you arrive feels a little off, doesn’t it?
But just remember, there’s still the risk of COVID-19 outside when you’ve finished with your drinks.
Help keep everyone safe on campus: wear a mask and sanitise your hands on the way out. We can’t wait to see you over the next term!
