Don't Let Yet

Dont Let Yet Banner

Worrying about your accommodation? Want to get it sorted for next year?

Don’t let Ormskirk landlords rip you off and pressure you into signing up for contracts before you’ve made friends, and before you know where you want to live.

There’s plenty of housing available in January, so don’t rush your accommodation until you’re ready!

Did you know…

As of June 2019, landlords are not allowed to charge tenancy fees. This means your landlord can only charge you for:

  • Rent
  • A refundable tenancy deposit
  • A refundable holding deposit (to reserve the property, capped at £50)
  • Payments associated with early termination of the tenancy
  • Payments in respect of utilities, communication services, TV licence and council tax.
  • A default fee for late payment of rent and replacement of a lost key/ security device giving access to the housing.

If your landlord charges you for cleaning services, for example, you should raise this with our Advice Centre!

Our goals!

During our Don’t Let Yet campaign, we aim to:

  • Develop proper standards around Letting Agencies and landlords in and around Ormskirk, including the ability to rate landlords
  • Deliver information to students about the housing market in Ormskirk and any changes that may occur to it
  • Deliver an EHU Guarantor Scheme to ease students concerns over cost

Dates for your diary

Term two sees the return of Edge Hill Housing Week and we're running a load of workshops and helpful resources, in addition to the Edge Hill Housing Fair!

  • Housing Workshops - 27th-30th January, Booking Required
  • Edge Hill Housing Fair - 30th January, 10am, The Hub
