SU Bar update (9 October)

We have today (9 October) taken the decision to close the SU Bar until further notice.

We are incredibly thankful to the entire Edge Hill community who have visited us and followed our guidelines over the past few weeks. In the SU Bar, we have prided ourselves on providing the best service, experience and hygiene procedures to keep everyone safe at this difficult time.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic has been a challenging time for everyone in the hospitality industry. Due to many of our student staff also living on campus, and therefore having to follow self-isolation procedures when requested according to their halls rooms, our reduced staff capacity has led us to the difficult decision of having to close the SU Bar.

We would like to emphasise that this is not an enforced decision, rather this is a decision we are making of our own accord as we believe being able to operate safely is more important than simply being able to operate. We aim to reopen as soon as possible, but in the meantime everyone at Edge Hill should feel safe to enjoy services including Stone Willy’s Kitchen where you can order Click and Collect Pizza, Fries and Chicken, and Subway which has both delivery via Just Eat and Click and Collect options.

Further updates will be posted on our website and social media following changes to our services and/or changes to Government guidelines. Thank you once again for your understanding, and we hope to see you back in the bar very soon.

COVID-19 Update - 7 October (NHS Track and Trace)

As of 7 October, all customers will need to check-in before entering the SU Bar using the NHS COVID-19 app. If you do not check-in, you will be refused entry.

You can download the app here:

You may be aware that Government COVID-19 guidelines for many North West councils have changed (true as of 22nd September 2020). Please see below for information as to how this affects use of the SU Bar.

  • The SU Bar has now implemented a table service system and we will be asking all customers to refrain from ordering at the bar.
  • The SU Bar, as with all Students' Union commercial outlets, is now cashless. We accept card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • The SU Bar will now close at 10pm, with last orders taking place at 9:30pm.
  • In line with the Government's updated COVID-19 guidelines when meeting friends and family you do not live with, we can confirm that the SU Bar will allow a maximum of six customers per table. Once inside, groups of six will be socially distanced via our table layout.
  • Track and Trace will also be in operation for the SU Bar opening on 26th September. Every customer must check-in via our track and trace system. This also applies to groups (i.e. every member of a group must check-in).
  • You can read our recent blog post about staying safe in the SU Bar

Safe Socialising

  • We will be following the latest social distancing Government guidelines.
  • In order to do this, we will be using floor markings and table layouts to ensure that everyone is safely distanced during their time in the SU Bar.

Promoting Good Hygiene

  • We will provide hand sanitisers at entrances and throughout the SU Bar and Venue, and will be encouraging all customers to use them regularly in order to stay safe.

Minimising Contact

  • We will be asking customers to use contactless payment methods while using the SU Bar.
  • We have also installed screens around our till to protect both you and our bar teams.

Looking after our team so they can look after you

  • We are providing training for our bar teams following the latest Government guidelines for safe working.
  • We will give our teams everything they need to work safely. This includes specific training on social distancing and hand hygiene.
  • We are carrying out full risk assessments on the SU Bar and Venue.

Heres how you can help us stay open and safe

We also have some small but important requests for our customers which will help us look after everyone in the SU Bar and Venue.

We’re asking you to…

  • Follow our social distancing measures so everyone can enjoy their time with us.
  • Respect our teams and any requests they have. Their main priority is to keep you safe.
  • Please maintain your own personal hand hygiene to protect everyone.
  • Using the space we have available to minimise contact with our teams and other customers wherever possible.

Our Menu

The SU bar offers a great choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including cocktails, draught beers and bottles. It is the perfect place to relax and socialise (at a distance) when you return to campus. If you're up for a memorable time, or just looking for a quiet pint while you watch the match, we should have a night for you!

We've been working hard behind the scenes at the Students’ Union to make sure that when we reopen our SU bar and Venue, we make them as safe as possible, whilst also following the latest Government and Public Health England guideline. We would like to thank you in advance for following any new guidelines within the bar as these are here to make you and everyone else safe.

SU bar and Venue is proud winner of BBN (Best Bar None) Award 2020 with Gold (100%).
