So, you’re starting at Edge Hill in April...

First things first, CONGRATULATIONS. We know you're going to love it here, not only because Edge Hill is an amazing place to study, but because we're in charge of ensuring you have the BEST time!

The first thing you need to do to ensure you're kept up to date on all the amazing activities around campus, is follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Now, don't panic about starting in the middle of the ‘traditional’ academic year – we’ve got a busy Freshers’ week planned for you with trips, crafternoons, film nights, free sports centre sessions and more! We’re here to make sure you’ve got plenty of opportunities to make friends, and work out where to go for help when you need it.

Still not convinced?

Here’s 7 FAQs we get asked ALL the time that will come in handy while you're settling in.

And if there’s anything else you need to know, feel free to get in touch by emailing sucomms@edgehill.ac.uk!

What is there to do on Campus?

Edge Hill’s campus is notoriously beautiful. And we're not just blowing our own trumpet.

Alongside our award winning green spaces (be sure to come visit The Sanctuary allotment when you arrive on campus), award winning accommodation, and a brand new library building that looks more space age than it does study space, we've got loads of wildlife and fauna to keep you at ease during deadlines and exams.

And, of course, there’s also the SU Building!

We look forward to welcoming you to SU Bar and VENUE, serving you meals in SUBWAY, and keeping you stocked up with supplies at the SU Shop.

As if that wasn't enough, there's also a fabulous Arts Centre and bar who host Free Film Fridays, and the HUB with a huge study area and food outlets!

...There’s even a hidden beach!

I’m a student in Manchester, what’s on for me?

As an Edge Hill student in Manchester, you have exclusive access to some of MMU’s Students’ Union spaces, including their bars, cafes, shops and exhibition halls (see their website https://www.theunionmmu.org/ for details).

If you’re looking for support with your University experience, you can still get in touch with our Advice Centre through phone appointments, and we regularly send staff and sabbatical officers over to our Manchester campus for opportunities to get your feedback on how we could be making your time at Edge Hill even better!

Are there any extra-curricular activities I can get involved in?

We have a great range of activities going on throughout the year as part of our “GIVE IT A GO!” programme.

These range from crafternoons (think tie-dye making, dream catcher creating, and upcycled knitting!) and skill-building workshops, to Free Film nights and trips to places across the country!

There are also lots of opportunities to have a go at sports and society sessions, without having to commit yourself to joining a team!

I don’t think I’m a “typical student” – is there anything for me?!

Let’s get one thing straight: there is no such thing as a “typical student”!

Edge Hill thrives on its diversity, and our student body hail from a huge variety of backgrounds. As your SU, we also recruit Full-time and Part-time officers to represent a diverse range of student groups.

We also have a large number of mature and parent students, as well as commuting students who live off campus.

If you're worried that you're trying to fit your studies around an already busy schedule, try not to panic. First of all, you are by no means alone, and there's plenty of similar students here to help you out when you're on campus. And secondly, we're always here for you to get in touch, either informally via our social media, or through our advice centre!

If I’m not happy on my course, what can I do?

Probably one of our most-used services - and most important - in our Students’ Union is our Advice Centre, and recent research has shown that Academic Support is something our Students want from us more than ever.

We’ve got a fantastic Advice Centre on Campus with an easy online appointment booking system. Once you've visited our page, you can book an appointment to see and advisor on campus or over the phone, who will help deal with a whole range of issues including exams, plagiarism and general unhappiness on your course.

We also have a network of Course Reps who are made up of students on your course, and can be used as a point of contact to raise your issues with. They’ll work with us alongside course tutors, to resolve issues and create change.

We look to recruit new Course Reps at the start of the academic year so if you think you might be interested in a role, get in touch with us at sucomms@edgehill.ac.uk!

What’s happening in Ormskirk?

We’ve got really great relationships with our friends at DISCOVER ORMSKIRK, which gives us insider knowledge on events and festivals that are coming up in the local area.

So, whether you’re looking for somewhere to hang out with your friends, or a family day out with the kids, keep following our social media feeds for news on what’s happening in the area!

I’m a commuting student – what do I do with my car?

We cannot stress how important it is that you sort out a parking permit if you haven’t already done so!

You can do this through the University website: https://www.edgehill.ac.uk/fm/parking-and-travel/ .

Routes in to Edge Hill, and Car parks on campus can get busy at peak times, so we’d always recommend that you allow plenty of time for your journey.
