Another week of sport means another BUCS Match Report! This week was just as exciting as always, so let's get into it...
This week we had 10 home games and 11 away games! This week was extra exciting as we had so many games at home. The atmosphere around Edge Hill was absolutely buzzing (even in the very cold weather) and the support given by students and families was amazing to see. Even though we had a lot of fixtures this week, we only have a brief match report for you!
We'll start with Women's Football. Our team have performed amazingly well so far this season and this week was no exception! They faced what they presumed would be a tough game against the University of Liverpool but after a solid performance, they came away with a comfortable 5-0 win (yay). Goals were from; Ruth Thomas (1), Chelsey Jukes (3) and Megan Woodward (1).
Now onto the Women's Hockey teams, who had two games this week. For the Women's 1st team, they faced a really tough opposition in the form of the University of Salford (who are currently at the top of the league... yikes). The girls recalled that as always seems to be the case with Salford, our team faced a lot of aggression and foul play from their oponents. But thankfully our girls managed to keep their cool and they played amazingly well in a very tightly contested game, which was 2-1 at half time. Our team fought back and managed to come away with a 2-2 draw!! This was such a great result considering the level of their oponents. Goals came from Anna and Yasin, with one goal each. Man of the match went to Em Wymer for another great performance. And now for the infamous 'D*ck of the Day' (everyone's favourite). This week it went to Laura Gill for stopping the game as she was certain that the opposition had 12 players, instead of the usual 11, on the pitch. Turns out that there was only 11, she just can't count.. (poor Laura!)
Onto the Women's 2nd game. This week their opponents were Lancaster University. The game started very slowly, which was unusual for our girls! In the first half, there were a few short cotners but no real hits on target from either team. After a great half time team talk by the captain, the girls managed to get their heads in the game and come away with a solid 2-0 win!! The first goal was from the Captain, Mel, on a short corner and the second was from Chelsea, after a fantastic independent run. Chelsea also received man of the match. Finally, D*ck of the day went to Rachel for constantly falling over.
We also have brief summaries of our other BUCS fixtures from Wednesday:
All teams and individuals have done so well and even though we suffered a few losses, they should be SO proud of themselves.
We'll be back next week with another weekly match report!!
