It’s that time of year again.
With nominations opening on Monday 1 February, we’re gearing up for another round of SU Elections.
But before we dive head first into campaigning and second-guessing who your candidates are, we’ve got some big news to tell you.
Brand new for 2021, we’ve made some significant changes to our SU Elections. So, if you’re interested in running, or getting involved in any capacity with our SU Elections, have a quick read of this article and then head to our elections webpages to download the full elections guide.
First things first, if you’re looking to run for a full-time, fully paid position in the SU Elections, then you might want to know that the officer positions for 2021/22 have changed.
This year, we are looking for three student engagement officers.
The roles and their responsibilities will be split up by faculties, meaning we’ll be looking for:
An important note: you will only be eligible to run for the officer position aligned with your faculty (so if you’re in the Faculty of Education, you can only run for the Faculty of Education Officer, etc.).
However, when it comes to voting, all students will be able to vote for all positions on election day (Tuesday 16 March).
We’ve made some changes to the support and advice potential candidates receive once they have made a self-nomination.
Because of this new process, it is incredibly important that you don’t leave your nomination until the last minute.
Once you have self-nominated via the SU Website, you are not yet an official candidate. You are only an official candidate once you have gone through the entire nomination process, which now includes:
So, as a recap: get your nomination in early as it will mean you have more time to complete the nominations process once an EHSU staff member has got in touch with you.
If you were looking to run for one of our Voluntary Officer positions, don’t worry.
We’ll be electing those positions in our Autumn elections, at the start of the 2021/22 academic year.
This is because there may also be changes to voluntary positions, so we want to give potential candidates the best idea of the position they are running for and their associated responsibilities.
