You’ve had your voice heard through the annual National Student Survey (NSS), and three quarters of you responded positively to the statement ‘the students’ union represents my academic interest’.

The Office for Students’ National Student Survey collects data every year from final year students, which provides data for universities to reflect and improve on their services. A benchmark is created which can help to inform prospective student’s choices based on current students’ real experiences.

Students rate their university over 29 questions, covering everything from quality of teaching, to IT facilities, and student community. Out of these questions, there is one question directly related to Students’ Unions, asking how well we represent your academic interests.

Following a review, the 2023 survey has adjusted the scales in responses for each question, meaning this year’s results aren’t directly comparable with last years.  New questions on mental health support, and freedom of expression in English universities have also been added for 2023.

In the 2022 NSS survey, 57.86% students agreed that Edge Hill Students’ Union effectively represented their academic interests, above the national average of 52.55%, and ranking us as the third best in the region.

This year the benchmark for SUs was raised considerably to 71.9%, but we are thrilled that we have remained above the national average, with 75% of respondents responding positively to the statement. Like us, SU’s across the North West have seen an increase in satisfaction scores, meaning despite our positive score, we’ve gone from the third highest rated to the fourth.

So, while we celebrate this achievement, we also recognise that there is always room for growth and improvement. It’s great to hear that students are satisfied with our hard work and we aim to keep student voice at the heart of everything we do here at Edge Hill Students’ Union. The NSS score provides valuable insights that will guide us as we continue to enhance the student experience at Edge Hill University. We want to thank every student who took the time to participate in the National Student Survey. Your opinions and feedback are invaluable, and they drive positive changes that benefit the entire university community.

Thank you once again for using your voice.
