Edge Hill Students’ Union’s “Student Led Staff Awards” saw over 120 staff and students attend a wonderful evening of celebration last night, with twelve awards to commend teaching and support staff at Edge Hill who have made a huge impact on students’ personal and academic lives.

A record-breaking 450 students put forward staff nominations with a huge range of moving tributes. From preventing students from dropping out of University, to outstanding teaching, or simply brightening up a students’ day, nominations highlighted the immense number of staff who have shown that they play such an important role in students’ lives at Edge Hill.

“Hearing the amazing nomination words from students at the awards ceremony was so moving, and makes you realise that the staff at Edge Hill care so much about our students. One student went from nearly dropping out of University, to considering studying a PhD, all because of the emotional and academic support from one staff member – it’s so important to recognise that one person can have such an immensely life-changing impact on a student’s life” said Conrad Jones, Head of Student Engagement at Edge Hill Students’ Union.

The evening was compered by Luke Myer, EHSU’s VP Adacemic Representation, with a keynote speech from Sara Crowley, Head of Student Experience at Edge Hill. Edge Hill’s Dance company “3rd Edge” showcased the emotional performance that recently took them to New York to perform with assistance from Edge Hill’s Student Opportunity Fund, and EHSU’s Hillstart Dance Society brought fantastic energy to the stage with their vibrant routine.

John Cater, Vice-Chancellor of Edge Hill University said, “These awards recognise sheer dedication to excellence in both teaching and support, motivating staff to shine and students to reflect on what they truly appreciate in a good University experience. The response from the student body this year has been wonderful, and reflects the enormous amount of enthusiasm to recognise the hard work of all staff at Edge Hill”.

He continued, “I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s outstanding winners, as well as everyone who was nominated. The comments made by students about all of our staff’s teaching, tutoring and general support were absolutely fantastic. Many thanks to the Students’ Union for hosting a truly inspirational evening, which I hope will continue for many years to come”.
