Today is #LoveSUs day – the day we talk about the power and influence of Students’ Unions in the education sector, society, and most importantly to the lives of our students.

So, we thought we’d give you a rundown of our highlights so far this academic year, what we’ve done for you, and the change we’ve made.

  • Dan launched his £9000 Student Coach Fund, Team Edge Hill Panel & Forum, Societies Spotlight, and the Societies Council, which has released about £1500 in new funding.
  • Rosie launched Faith Forums, a Hate Crime Reporting Centre, ran SOS to help you out during exam stress, and got free sanitary products for student in our emergency menstruation station, and we absorb the tampon tax for sanitary products in our shop to tackle #PeriodPoverty.
  • Ben arranged drug and alcohol support, and a Guinness-world-record-winning keynote speaker all without spending a penny, and has also fought and won favourable outcomes for students in 11 appeals & panels.
  • Ben and Luke secured a new printer in the Hub, and more printer credit too!
  • Ben and Rosie have brought the guide dogs back to campus for a few pooch petting events.
  • Luke launched the 7 new liberation & section committees, won on timetabling improvements and keeping Wednesday afternoons free, and with the incredible support of the Policy & Campaigns team have engaged with all 5 major HE sector consultations, & broken last year’s Student Lead Staff Awards nomination record in 3 weeks!
  • Our Disabled Students Officer Kathryn ran an amazing Disability History Month campaign that saw us featured in the press, her receive a commendation, and one of our societies sign flash-mob was even shared worldwide online by Christina Ricci!
  • We elected our first ever Trans & Non-Binary Officer, and Bex hosted a vigil for Trans Day of Remembrance, worked with Luke on removing dead names from uni cards, and has a feature in the upcoming edition of Degree magazine.
  • We’ve put on & hosted around 102 Give It A Go events, with great success!
  • The Advice Centre have dealt with over 200 cases, representing and winning for you.
  • We launched the Subway! (We know you love it.)
  • We’re launching LGBT+ socials soon, and in partnership with American Football we’re hosting a Super Bowl event in the SU bar.
  • We held our Annual Members Meeting, getting your voice and opinions on what the Unions been up to in all of our activities in the past year.
  • We’ve gone up FIVE PLACES in BUCS thanks to the hard work of our incredible sports teams!
  • We have a deal with MMU for our Manchester students to use their facilities, attend their welcome week events, and Luke and Dan are coming over on #LoveSUs Day (today!) to review this deal and ensure it works for you!
  • Coming up this term we have Pride Week, SAFE week, a Hidden Costs Campaign, Women’s Week, Sustainability Week, and so much more (check out the Give It A Go schedule for more information about what’s on!)

We #LoveSUs, because our collective power to make change on campus for you, and to work with other Students’ Unions nationally to make changes in society. We are a part of a movement, one that represents you, that seeks to empower you, and with you, we hope to change the world. (We’ll stop being starry-eyed now.)

If you think there is something we should be working on, but aren’t, get in touch! And if you too love Students’ Unions and think you could make a difference, check out the roles up for election at https://www.edgehillsu.org.uk/suelections.

Love (SUs,)

Ben, Rosie, Dan, and Luke.
