The blogs that I have written this month have been all about defining moments for women and incredible things that have been done to support and empower women worldwide.

They have also been inspired by the theme of International Women’s Day this year, which was #ChooseToChallenge.

The theme showed us that gender bias and inequality still exists within society; that there is always a lot more to be done to help gain equal rights and close the gender inequality gap.

The final blog in the series will discuss, highlight and celebrate local and worldwide charities that are doing fantastic work to empower women.

The Women’s Organisation

The Women’s Organisation supports women and helps them achieve their personal, social and economic potential.

While the organisation is based in Liverpool, their efforts reach further than the north-west and support women from all backgrounds worldwide.

The gender pay gap still stands at 17.3% among all employees within the UK. The Women's Organisation is the largest organisation to deliver training and support for women to help close this gap.

This organisation encourages women to become more economically active within society.

The support provided for women includes:

  • Growing businesses
  • Career development
  • Personal development
  • Wellbeing and community support
  • Fighting gender inequality

Bloody Good Period

“We give period products to those who can’t afford them, and provide menstrual education to those less likely to access it. And we help everybody talk about periods.”

Bloody Good Period aims to fight and tackle period poverty through providing free sanitary products, educating asylum seekers and refugees to end period shame, help employers to understand and actively support menstrual equity within the UK, and to normalise periods.

If you wish to help this show your support to this charity, there are several ways you can get involved:

  • Donate – Donations get period products to those who can’t afford them

  • Fundraise – Raise money to help provide women with sanitary products

  • Raise awareness – Stop hiding your period! Normalise Periods.

Wonder Foundation

Wonder Foundation aims to empower women and girls within their societies, providing them with access to quality education so that they can transform their lives and exit poverty for good.

They work on a global scale targeting areas of poverty and aim to create a world where:

  • Women and girls are empowered to make informed life choices and lead their own personal development encouraging women to be leaders.
  • Quality of education helps to end poverty
  • Every person is valued, and dignity is respected
  • Women with all societies are provided with knowledge to live more sustainably to end poverty

They believe that educating women results in them being able to make better decisions, invest in their communities, access more educated jobs, obtain a better income and women having more educated and healthy families.

This foundation fights against gender inequality by closing the barriers to education that prevent many women from advancing within their societies.

The Girls' Network

The Girls' Network aims to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities within the UK by connecting them to a mentor and a network of professional female role models.

Two secondary school teachers set up the organisation as they had a strong passion for empowering young girls and believed that no girls should have their future lives limited by gender, ethnicity, background or parental income.

The Girls' Network are partnered throughout secondary schools and colleges in London, Sussex, Portsmouth, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, the North East, Tees Valley and Liverpool. They provide girls with a mentor for a year, and all girls graduate becoming ambassadors of the programme. This empowers girls across the UK to strive for the best and also gives them something incredible that they have achieved to put on their CV's.

To get involved, you can recommend this opportunity within secondary schools, you can partner with the Network and become a mentor, or you can fundraise and donate. This is an amazing organisation that helps girls become the women of the future.

Final Thoughts…

This is not an extensive list, and there are hundreds of amazing charities across the UK and globally that help to fight against gender inequality, empower and support women in their fight to become equal within society.
