Frequently Asked Questions

You may have questions that pop up during your time as a Feedback Rep. Most things are explained during the training or within the handbooks.

Have a look below at our Frequently Asked Questions if you need any additional help:

How do I handle sensitive or worrying issues?

We ask all our Feedback Reps to keep in mind that some students may find it very difficult to share their issues, and when they do share information they are doing it because they have built up trust in you.

We ask you to handle their information with respect and only share it if they ask you to. If they ask to remain anonymous, make sure you don’t write their name on any information or copy anyone into emails/messages without their permission.

If you speak to a student and you are worried that they might be at risk of harm then their anonymity can be waved, and we ask that you tell a member of University or Students’ Union staff at the earliest opportunity. If you feel that they are at immediate risk of danger, or it is out-of-hours, we ask that you call the relevant emergency services.

What if I am not able to get the desired outcome?

If you are not able to do something or get the preferred outcome then don’t worry. Sometimes there are issues which arise due to regulations from professional bodies or policies in place which must be there by law.

If you are facing an issue which you cannot get a positive result from, you can always come and chat with us here in the Students’ Union and we may be able to lobby the University to try and improve your student experience.

What if I say the wrong thing?

You don’t need to worry if you say the wrong thing, it happens sometimes. If in doubt, clarify what you mean or alternatively get in contact with us to double check you aren’t giving out incorrect information.

First and foremost, our reps are all students so we know that you are here to learn and mistakes are an important part of that process.

What if the University or the staff don’t follow through with making changes?

If the University or the staff promise to change something and it doesn’t change, you can enquire about it in the next meeting you attend. There should be minutes and action points from each meeting so you will be able to hold them to account.

However, if you are having issues with this or you do not have another meeting to attend before your role is complete then come and see us here at the Students’ Union and we will be able to take it forward.

Can I be a Feedback Rep if I’m not based on a Campus?

Yes! You don’t have to be on a campus to be a Feedback Rep. You can use a variety of online methods to gather feedback from your peers and you can submit the feedback you have collected via email to the meetings if you are unable to attend.

What if I don’t have any feedback to give?

There is nothing wrong with not having any feedback to give to staff. If you have done all you can to get feedback and everyone on your course is content,  then that’s ok. Even if this is the case, please do still fill out the rep journal to keep us in the loop. We are keen to hear how things are going, good or bad.

How long am I a Feedback Rep for?

You are a Feedback Rep for one academic year. Some academic departments chose to re-elect or offer the class the chance to continue with the current Feedback Rep. Speak to your course leader to clarify.

What should I do if I’m not being invited to meetings I should be attending or my department is not having them?

You should contact your elected President team who will raise the issue with the department and make sure you are being invited to all necessary meetings. Please email suengagement@edgehill.ac.uk to contact the President team.

What do I do if I can’t make a meeting?

Make sure you send your apologies in advance to the person organising the meeting so they know you won’t be there. We recommend sending one of your Feedback Rep colleagues to the meeting with points you'd like to raise so no issues get missed.

I want to be a Feedback Rep but what if I am not elected?

At the Students’ Union we think it’s brilliant that people put themselves forward for the role, knowing that there is a chance that they may not be elected. Don’t be disheartened if that’s the case because there are lots of other amazing opportunities to get involved. It's worth having a chat with your tutor as they may still be keen to have you onboard.

You could run as a voluntary elected officer or a full-time paid student officer, get involved in an SU campaign, start up or join a society, or even start by coming along to some of our events.

How do I withdraw from my role?

We appreciate that the Feedback Rep role might not be right for you, or it may have just come along at the wrong time. If you feel that you would like to withdraw from your role we ask that you let your course leader know and drop us an email at SUengagement@edgehill.ac.uk.

Alternatively, if you would like to chat things through before deciding, feel free to contact the Student Engagement Team at SUengagement@edgehill.ac.uk.

I’m a student and am having issues with the rep structures, where can I access help?

If you have any concerns around your representative, or want to make a suggestion, feel free to contact the Student Engagement team via email at SUengagement@edgehill.ac.uk.
