Transferring to another course at Edge Hill University

This process is only applicable for students, not applicants. If you want to change your current course you will need to consider whether you meet the entry requirements of the new course. You will also need to apply within 4 weeks of semester one to be eligible.

You will be unable to transfer from a non-professional course (e.g. Business Studies) to a professional course (e.g. Adult Nursing), you would need to reapply in this scenario.

If you are on a professional course you may be able to transfer to a non-professional course if you have passed 60 credits of relevant study at level 4 or 5.

To apply you must get approval from your Programme Leader on your current course and the new course you wish to start. You must then complete the Transfer Application form and explain the reasons for the transfer.

Both Programme Leads must sign this form before you submit it to the Academic Registry. You will then be notified if the request has been approved.

If you just want to change a module but remain on the same course you will need to complete the module request form.

There are specific deadlines to apply for a module change. Your request will then be considered by your academic department and you will get a response within five working days.

Transferring to another university

If you decide that Edge Hill is not for you and you want to study at a different university then you will be best placed to speak to the Academic Records Team about your next steps.

The Transition Team can also help you discuss your options. There is no guarantee that an external transfer will be possible.

Students in this position should consider whether they meet the entry requirements of the new course. It may be possible to transfer any credits obtained at Edge Hill to the new university, if it is the same course they wish to undertake and the module content is similar.

Before starting the transfer process you should look at the potential courses content to see if it would be something you are interested in. It is also worth noting that the level of your current degree may not match with the level you wish to undertake. For example you may be at Level 5 now but on the course you wish to transfer to, you would need to enter at Level 4 to meet their requirements.

Whether you want to do a different degree or the same one elsewhere you will need to contact the particular institution to see whether they have space on the course and whether they are able to accept a transfer. The university you want to transfer to will have its own set of policies regarding their transfer arrangements and will have a department that you can liaise with.

You may need to have an interview with the new university or complete pre-enrolment checks and you will need to provide evidence of grades you have obtained so far, along with details of the module. You may even need to reapply through UCAS.

Transferring your mode of study

You may be able to transfer your full-time course to part time or vice versa. This will depend on the course you are on and you will need to contact the Academic Records Team to see if this is possible.

Undertaking this change will most likely have an impact on your tuition fees but you will be notified of any implications in conjunction with this request.

Implications of different transfers

  • Consider your student funding entitlement, will transferring mean you need to undertake more years of study or is the new course longer than you current one? Think about whether Student Finance England will cover any additional years of funding you might need.
  • You may not be able to transfer over previous grades obtained, if you transfer internally
  • Consider the fact you will be starting at a later date than other students and your schedule and type of assessments may be different
  • If you are a part time student your tuition fees may be affected if you change a module
